A high-level Turkish trade delegation is scheduled to arrive in Addis Ababa this week to explore expanded commercial cooperation with Ethiopia across multiple industries. The visit is organized by the Türkiye Exporters Assembly (TİM) and coordinated by Turkey’s Ministry of Trade of Turkey, with a focus on market research and the assessment of new investment opportunities.

The delegation will hold meetings with Ethiopian public institutions and private-sector representatives through January 16, 2026. The agenda is expected to cover a range of priority sectors, including construction materials, agricultural processing, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and energy equipment.

Ethiopia has long been identified by Turkish policymakers and exporters as a strategic market in sub-Saharan Africa. Turkish exports to the country peaked at USD 384 million in 2015, before declining to USD 231 million in 2020. Export volumes were reported at USD 197.2 million in 2024, while shipments during the first 11 months of the previous year totaled approximately USD 135 million, according to the same source.

In recent years, Turkey’s exports to Ethiopia have been heavily concentrated in a limited number of product categories. Construction steel, pharmaceuticals, woven carpets, and wheat flour together accounted for more than 90 percent of total exports, reflecting both Ethiopia’s infrastructure needs and Turkey’s established manufacturing strengths.

The two countries are linked by a bilateral investment protection agreement as well as a treaty for the avoidance of double taxation, providing a formal framework for cross-border investment. Turkish officials and investors continue to point to Ethiopia’s textiles, agriculture, mining, and tourism sectors as areas with significant untapped potential, particularly as the country seeks to expand industrial capacity and export-oriented growth.
